My boyfriend was arguing with this guy last night. This same guy has also stated that “feminism is evil”. He claimed that feminism has no place in western culture and “proved” this point by saying that the pay-gap is a myth and that “men get raped too”. This obviously doesn’t invalidate feminism as it addresses the issue of sexual violence towards anyone, regardless of gender/non-gender. It’s just a very sad fact that sexual violence is overwhelmingly directed towards women, and that the act of slut shaming and victim blaming is rampant in our society. Rape culture normalizes and trivializes the act of rape, and that’s a huge problem.
This guy goes on to claim that he “won” the argument, because my boyfriend got sick of his stubborn, close-minded opinion, and told him that it wasn’t his responsibility to cure his ignorance.
“I’m not a white-knight, I’m a motherfucking feminist.”
Yeah, I’m pretty fond of this boy.
